Pregnancy Massage

pregnancy massageThis specialist treatment uses a variety of techniques to support you and your baby throughout the three trimesters of your pregnancy.

Devised by Suzanne Yates, pregnancy therapy expert and author of several books on the subject, it combines Swedish massage techniques with acupressure points and some gentle stretching and exercise advice, which may help relieve tension, aches and pains in the back, neck and shoulders, relieve "puffiness" in hands and feet, reduce the risk of varicose veins, promote relaxation and restful sleep and support a healthy pregnancy experience.

The massage is performed on shiatsu futons rather than a traditional massage bench. This enables treatment to be given with you lying on your side, a more comfortable position for you and your "bump"!

Each session lasts up to 90 minutes and is tailored to your individual requirements. If you are feeling tired and heavy, the emphasis will be more on relaxation but otherwise the session will typically include some gentle exercise, stretching and mobilising techniques as well as the massage.

Abdominal work is offered and many mums-to-be enjoy this aspect of the treatment and have said the baby finds it soothing too! In the later stages of your pregnancy, acupressure points said to support the body in preparation for labour will be introduced to the massage and will also be taught so that you can use them at home.
