Last Thursday we launched our Healthy Lifestyle Club at On the Bench HQ in Portchester.  Half a dozen determined souls arrived, not really knowing what to expect from our self proclaimed "Health Revolution", but dead set on ditching the diets and fads in favour of a more sustainable solution to their health concerns. After a little introduction and scene setting from me about my vision for the group and what course we would wind through the coming weeks we got down to business!  First order of business; Know your enemy!  It was vital from the outset that I got across the idea that this group was about more than just what you eat.  This is our (I believe) crucial area of difference, this group is all about healthy lifestyle and all that that entails; sleep, stress, exercise, digestion and yes, nutrition.  We set up this group as our retort to what we saw as the grossly inadequate, one-size-fits-all approach to health as preached by Weight watchers and slimming world etc.  It's not just a matter of calories in V's calories out, anyone who professes otherwise is either ignorant of the biochemical facts or willfully ignoring them in favour of trying to sell you their low calorie cakes and crisps!  Yes Weight Watchers, that was a dig at you!

*Rant over, back on track*

Identifying your enemies means realising what it is about your lifestyle that is a causative factor in your troubles, be they weight related, skin, hair, digestion, constipation you name it.  We started this process of self awareness with a series of questionnaires covering areas such as what we eat, when we eat it, our sleep habits, our stress levels, our digestion/elimination and our exposure to fungal infection risk factors.  The answers were kept confidential and a score card system was used to identify areas that were at high risk of causing problems.

Armed with our knowledge of these potentially unseen enemies the group will be going over each area in greater detail over the coming weeks meetings.  In doing so each person will get all the support, information and advise they need to start making healthy choices that would have real impact on their health.  Working on the areas that are a personal risk factor to them in a truly bespoke way.  Individual solutions to an individuals issues, how many groups offer that!?

I'm excited about this project, it has the potential to do a lot of good to a lot of people and there is still time to get involved if you like the sound of it.  Just send me a message at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we'll send you the questionnaires and talk you through what you need to get up to speed in time for the next meeting on March 15th (18:15 in the studio).
