2012 - What a year!
Well, here we are at the end of another year. 2012 has flown by so quickly and what a year it has been! Before looking forward to 2013, I want to pause to reflect on some of this year's achievements.
I began the year with a list of resolutions. Some I found very easy to stick to (most noteably switching all my skincare products to organic, non-toxic alternatives) but others have slipped as the year has progressed (my intention to run more went fairly well until after the Great South, since when it has stopped completely, not helped by the incessant rain). But I really feel that I have benefitted from ditching the chemical-laden skincare products - I have less spots, no patches of irritated skin, my scalp no longer itches after too long on the same brand of shampoo and a 'blemish' on the side of my face that I had seen the GP about as it was growing bigger and darker has completely cleared up! And my conscience is clearer knowing that I am not flushing toxic products down the plughole several times a day. I may not have succeeded in keeping my other resolutions for the whole year but I gave them all my best shot and will try harder in 2013!
2012 will be remembered around the world for the fabulous London Olympics. The build up started in March for me as I was lucky enough to win a place in the Olympic Park Run, a 5-mile race around the site, finishing on the athletics track! It was a once in a lifetime experience and one I will never forget! As for the Olympics itself, I wasn't able to get tickets but stood in the pouring rain to watch the Women's Marathon and, despite the weather, the atmosphere in Central London was amazing. I was also lucky enough to get tickets for the Paralympics and enjoyed swimming heats and a night in the Olympic Stadium for some awesome athletics, including cheering David Weir to his first Gold of the competition. Being back in the stadium as a spectator reinforced what a special opportunity I had had to run on the now legendary track! It was an absolute privilege to be a witness to such an amazing Summer for British sport.
There have been a few changes to the structure of the company in the latter half of this year as Neil made the decision to go back to working for himself. At around the same time, we learned of plans to redevelop the Trafalgar Wharf site where we are currently located. After much deliberation, I decided that without Neil's involvement, I would lose the 'Exercise' side of the business as he is a tough act to follow and without need of a studio space it would make it easier to find new premises to move to when our lease expires. Neil will still be working locally and we will continue to work closely with each other, albeit as separate businesses.
On The Bench celebrated its 5th birthday in November, a milestone I could not have reached without the continued support of my very loyal regulars and all the new clients I have welcomed this year so thank you all very much! In this seemingly never-ending recession, reaching such an anniversary has to be one of the highlights of the year and now that I have a clear idea of where I want to take the company, I hope the next 5 years will be even more successful!
2013 is going to be another exciting year with a move to new premises scheduled for early February and lots of plans to increase the therapies on offer. There will also be some Special Offers regularly throughout the year that you won't want to miss! Full details of all the upcoming changes and imrovements will be revealed in the weeks to come so please check the website, Facebook and Twitter pages regularly so you don't miss out!
So as 2012 draws to a close, I would like to wish you all a very Happy, Peaceful, Prosperous and Healthy 2013 and thank you again for your support this year.
